Diede de Groot is the most dominant athlete in tennis and perhaps in all sports. With her victory at the 2024 Australian Open, the Dutch wheelchair star won her 13th consecutive Grand Slam singles title. Incredibly, she has achieved the calendar-year Grand Slam – claiming all four majors in a season – three years in a row, and in 2021 she achieved what is known as ‘The Golden Slam’ as she also won the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Hyeon Chung has drawn a great amount of attention with his stunning results starting at the ITF Futures Circuit through to the ATP Challenger Tour. In 2014, Chung ranked highly at local Asian ITF events, earning three titles. That same year, he broke into the ATP Challenger Tour, being crowned the champion at the Bangkok Open. Leaving a strong impression at both ITF and ATP competitions, Hyeon also won two matches for his country’s Davis Cup team and was awarded a gold medal in doubles at the 2014 Asian Games.

Hyeon experienced a rapid rise through the ranks in 2015—boosting through to the Top 150 in February, proceeding to make his way into the Top 100 in May. He made his first appearance at the main draw of a Grand Slam at that year’s Wimbledon Championships, winning his first match in the main draw of a Grand Slam at the US Open against James Duckworth. In 2015, Chung went on to a triumph at the OEC Kaohsiung Challenger, and reached his first ATP World Tour-level quarterfinal at the Shenzhen Open. He was selected as the 2015 ATP Most Improved Player for rising over 120 places in the rankings throughout the year.

Former world No. 5, Eugenie Bouchard signed with Yonex in the fall of 2018. “I wanted a fresh start and I’m happy that I’ve found a racquet I really trust,” said Bouchard. “I tried the new VCORE and instantly fell in love with it.” 

Born in Montreal, Canada, Bouchard quickly climbed the junior ranks and ascended to world No. 2 after winning the 2012 Wimbledon Girls’ Singles Championship. She had her most successful year in 2014, where she appeared in the semifinals of three Grand Slams and became the first Canadian female player to be ranked in the Top 5.

Having struggled to find her form due to injuries, Bouchard returned to the US Open in 2018 with a new frame of mind. She worked her way through three qualifying rounds and won a main draw match in New York for the first time in three years. 

 “I feel like myself again,” said Bouchard. “I am able to play my aggressive game with the larger sweet spot, and I also have easy access to spin.”

Arguably one of the best college tennis players to ever play the sport, Steve Johnson has elevated his game from the college ranks to the ATP Tour. Born and raised in Southern California, Johnson captured his fourth ATP title in 2018 at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, RI.

Dictating points with his strong serve and forehand, Johnson has reached the third round at all four Grand Slams and has a bronze medal from the 2016 Rio Olympics to his name.

“Tennis is crazy,” Marketa Vondrousova observed after winning the 2023 Wimbledon title to become the first unseeded women’s champion in the tournament’s history. The Czech had previously won only one match at Wimbledon and had thought that playing on grass was “impossible” but she went on to claim her first Grand Slam singles title.
 Remarkably, that was the second time that Vondrousova had reached a major final as an unseeded player, as she had also done so at Roland-Garros in 2019 as a teenager.

After reaching his first two Grand Slam finals at Roland-Garros and the US Open in 2022, he also appeared in the Roland-Garros final in 2023.     In 2010, Anastasija Sevastova became the first Latvian tennis player to win a WTA title in 17 years when she achieved victory at the Estoril Open in Oeiras, Portugal. She took a short break from the tour in 2013 due to injuries, but made a strong return to the court two years later. Sevastova awed tennis fans with an impressive comeback, starting unranked and going on to reach No. 110 in the WTA rankings. After returning to the tour, she earned four singles titles and three doubles titles at ITF tournaments. In 2016, she reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the US Open and also advanced to the finals at the Bucharest Open and Mallorca Open.

    In 2018, she reached her career high ranking of No. 11 and finished her second consecutive season as Top 20. She reached her very first US Open semifinals in 2018 after upsetting Sloan Stephens.
