EZONE OSAKA – AN OSAKA SISTER ORIGINAL

EZONE OSAKA - AN OSAKA SISTER ORIGINAL

TOKYO — Yonex Co., Ltd. is proud to announce the OSAKA EZONE racquet and PRO  SERIES BAG, launching August 25, 2022.

Naomi Osaka and her sister, Mari, collaborated with Yonex’s Research & Development team to create a one-of-a-kind cosmetic for the racquet and bag.

“My sister and I have always talked about designing a racquet and to see it come to life is really special – the design is so detailed and unique,” said Naomi.

First, the sisters considered their childhood, where their mother visualized the duo as dragons. After all, dragons represent great power, good luck, and strength.

Mari began sketching the dragon and found that a spiritual spider lily would complete the design. The spider lily also represents strength and beauty because “the power of a woman is that she can combine the two,” said Mari. Then came the color selection: gold and purple, a luxurious blend for power and ambition.

“The dragons represent an unwavering, fighting spirit,” said Mari. “I hope the racquet gives Naomi strength and confidence every time she steps on the court even when I’m not with her.”

Naomi will debut the OSAKA EZONE racquet and bag at the Silicon Valley Classic, a WTA 500 event in San Jose, California. Naomi’s summer schedule also includes stops in Toronto and Cincinnati before making her way to New York where she is a two-time US Open champion.

“I’m so excited to finally be able to use the OSAKA EZONE and bag in competition,” said Naomi, who will pair the OSAKA EZONE 98 with POLYTOUR STRIKE 125 string in iron gray to match her racquet.

The OSAKA EZONE is an added colorway to the 7th-generation EZONE series, which is crafted for power and comfort. The OSAKA EZONE series will feature a 98, 100, 100L and 100SL option.

The OSAKA Pro Series Racquet bag will be available in 6 or 9 racket variations.

“It was an incredible experience to make my and Naomi’s vision come to life with the team at Yonex,” Mari added. “I really enjoyed the process and hope that anyone who uses our racquet will find their inner strength to play at their very best.”

2022 Wimbledon: Elena Rybakina is Champion

LONDON – “I just know that I have this gift,” said Elena Rybakina during her two-week stay at this year’s Wimbledon.

She shared her gift with the world on Saturday afternoon – a powerful, relentless game, blistering groundstrokes, swift movement – especially for a 6-footer, untouchable serves, and a sense of calmness on the biggest stage.

The 23-year-old was playing in just her second Wimbledon. Her first time on Centre Court was two days prior for her semifinal victory over former champion Simona Halep. Now, she’s 2-for-2 on the historic court, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

The Wimbledon ladies’ final would be the first time in the Open Era that both finalists were making their major final debut. Rybakina was up against World No. 2 Ons Jabeur, who was looking to become the first African player to win a Grand Slam.

Nerves were in play during the opening set for Rybakina. For the first time all tournament, Rybakina failed to serve an ace in a set and racked up 17 unforced errors, 11 more than Jabeur and one more than she had in her entire semifinal match.

Rybakina saw her first breakpoint after a forehand winner in the first game of the second set and capitalized on the opportunity. In the fourth game, Rybakina fended off three breakpoints with two winners and an unforced error from Jabeur to go up 3-1.

That game proved to be one of the most pivotal in the match. Rybakina was finding her rhythm, cut down on her unforced errors, and found the corners. She would win five of the next six games to take a 2-0 lead in the deciding set.

The third set was a lot like the second. Rybakina was 2-for-3 again on breakpoints on Jabeur’s serve to give her a three-game cushion at 5-2 to serve out the match.

At 40-30 in the 26th game, Jabeur’s backhand sailed wide and Rybakina – staying true to her calmness on the court – silently sighed and casually walked to the net after her 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.

2022 Wimbledon - Team Yonex Preview

LONDON – Over 50 players from Team Yonex have transitioned to the grass in SW19 for Wimbledon. 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of Wimbledon’s Centre Court since the move to Church Road. Although ranking points will not be awarded at this year’s Championships, the draws are still packed with talent but open for new opportunities.

[3] Casper Ruud (NOR) is coming off his career-best performance with a runner-up finish at Roland-Garros last month. [7] Hubert Hurkacz (POL) and [13] Denis Shapovalov (CAN) are looking to build off their success from last year where they reached the semifinals.

Nick Kyrgios (AUS) is one of the most dangerous, unseeded players in the draw. Kyrgios is 7-2 this grass season with key wins over top players. Kyrgios will team up with Thanasi Kokkinakis (AUS) in doubles, their first appearance since winning the 2022 Australian Open titles.

American [8] Jessica Pegula has been one of the most-consistent players on tour. She has reached the singles’ quarterfinals in both majors this year and was recently a finalist at Roland-Garros in doubles.

Top Seeds on Grass

Team Yonex makes up 20% of the top-32 seeds in the men’s and women’s singles draw. For the first time in their careers, Ruud is a top-4 seed and Hurkacz is a top-8 seed.

On the women’s side, Pegula leads Team Yonex as the 8 seed. 2018 Wimbledon Champion and last year’s semifinalist Kerber is flying under the radar on her favorite surface as the 15 seed.

Also recording “first’s” during their breakout seasons, 21-year-old [31] Sebastian Baez (ARG) and Ukranian [29] Anhelina Kalinina are seeded for the first time in their careers.

The London Collection

The traditional all-white collection will be worn by 10 players at this year’s Championships, including two of the top-eight men’s seeds – Ruud and Hurkacz.

Yonex Signs Thanasi Kokkinakis

Thanasi Kokkinakis Signs with Yonex

TOKYO – Yonex Co., Ltd. is proud to announce the addition of Thanasi Kokkinakis (AUS) to Team Yonex.

Kokkinakis began testing Yonex racquets in the 2021/22 off season, finding the 7th-generation EZONE racquet to suit him best. Still unsure about the performance in competition, Kokkinakis took the court at the Adelaide International 1 with a blacked-out EZONE.

Playing in front of his hometown, Kokkinakis reached the semifinals of an ATP-level event for the first time since July 2017. A week later at the Adelaide International 2, another ATP 250 event, Kokkinakis won his first-career ATP title.

It was a dream come true.

“I’ve been playing and practicing on this court since I was eight or nine years old, coming here before school every day,” said Kokkinakis. “I love this court so much.”

The Aussie kept dreaming. After bowing out in the first round of the Australian Open days later, Kokkinakis teamed up with his childhood friend, Nick Kyrgios in doubles.

The duo made history, becoming the first wildcard team to win the Australian Open men’s doubles title in the professional era and the first all-Aussie doubles champions in Melbourne since 1997.

Kokkinakis saw his ranking soar. From World No. 171 to begin the 2022 season to World No. 84, Kokkinakis is inching up on his career-high ranking of 69, which he reached in 2015.

“Yonex’s support of me has been tremendous,” said Kokkinakis. “I’m so happy to have found a racquet that suits my game best and to have had the results I’ve had already. I don’t take anything for granted and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Australia Open 2025: New Yonex Members Capture Dream Trophies in Magical Finish at Melbourne Park

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – The first Grand Slam of 2025 will be one to remember for fans – and the extended Yonex family. Madison Keys‘ (USA) Australian Open triumph came 10 years after she reached her first major semifinal and highlighted a series of dramatic finishes across Melbourne Park.

Keys Opens the Door to Her Dreams… with a Yonex Racquet

Who could have predicted such a stunning conclusion to this beautiful story at the outset of the Australian Open? Keys, now 29 years old and ranked 14th in the world, entered the tournament as the 19th seed.

Her resurgence was evident during her impressive title run at the Adelaide International, where she showcased the results of her hard work in the off-season, including adjustments to her equipment and overall game.

Having turned pro at 14 and being hailed as a “child prodigy,” Keys had long pursued the major dream of any tennis star: a Grand Slam singles title. The decision to revisit her equipment came on the advice of her husband, Bjorn Fratangelo, whom she married in November last year.

“I kind of fell in love pretty quickly. I definitely think that I have a level of trust in things more with this racquet.”

“I think one of the big things is, especially on the days where I’m not really feeling [the ball], I felt like I have the ability to manipulate things with my racquet and my hands and have more safety. I was struggling with that before.”

Her ability to perform at a high level consistently was evident in her results. Her winning streak, which began in Adelaide, extended to 12 matches in Melbourne. She defeated 2022 finalist Elena Rybakina (KAZ) in the fourth round and World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in a thrilling semifinal —while also scoring a win over Elina Svitolina in between.

Then she clinched her first Grand Slam title, defeating two-time reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in the final.

The winning shot for the title was a calm, precisely placed inside-out forehand winner. It was a long-awaited triumph, achieved through years of hard work and the power and control gained with her new racquet.

Talking about her EZONE racquet, Keys said:

“So, I’ve been using the EZONE 98 and I absolutely love it. I feel like I have more easy power, but I also have been able to control the ball.

I feel like, especially when playing someone who hits really big, I’ve been able to absorb the ball a little bit more.

I feel like it’s just really helped me elevate my game so that I can be a little bit more aggressive, but also have the control that I need to feel comfort to keep going for all my shots. ”

Men’s Singles: Ben Shelton Reaches Career Second Grand Slam Semifinal

In men’s singles, Ben Shelton (USA) reached the semifinals for the first time at the Australian Open, marking another milestone in his rapidly rising career. He tied the tournament’s fastest serve speed at 232 km/h (144.2 mph) and thrilled fans with his dynamic and powerful game.

Shelton’s impressive run came to an end against eventual champion Jannik Sinner. At just 22 years old, Shelton has already reached two Grand Slam semifinals, highlighting his immense potential and bright future in the sport.

Doubles: Yonex Scores Triumphs in Both Men’s and Women’s Doubles

Harri Heliovaara (FIN), who won his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year with Henry Patten, triumphed again in Melbourne alongside the same partner. Their victory came in a dramatic three-hour-and-four-minute final against Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori, with a scoreline of 6-7(16), 7-6(5), 6-3.

After dropping the first set in a historic tiebreak that ended 16-18 where the duo had 10 set points, they mounted an incredible comeback to claim the title.

In the women’s doubles, the top-seeded pair of Taylor Townsend (USA) and Katerina Siniakova claimed the championship. For Townsend, the victory came 13 years after she was crowned champion in the junior girls’ singles in 2012, marking a remarkable full-circle moment in her career.
