Denis Shapovalov has great promise to become a star of the ATP Tour with his strong forehand and single handed backhand. He turned professional in 2016 after earning the Wimbledon Jr. Boys’ Singles title. In 2017, he won the ATP Challenger Tour in Canada, breaking into the Top 200 for the first time. At the age of 19, he became the youngest player to enter the ATP Top 30 since 2005.
In 2019, he broke into the Top 20 after reaching the semifinals of the Miami Open. Later that year, he won his first ATP title at the Stockholm Open and reached the finals at the Rolex Paris Masters, defeating Alexander Zverev, Fabio Fognini, and Gael Monfils along the way. His risky, but crafty style caught the eye of Roger Federer who said, “I like people who go for (their shots) and have a positive demeanor about themselves. I’m a big fan of his and I’m sure we are going to see a lot more of Denis in the future.”
